Reasons for Attaching Window Tinting to Your Home and Office

1/27/2020

Deciding if you need home window tinting is as necessary as determining if you need to secure yourself even while you are home. Did you know that a window tint guarantees you and your home’s interior health? Especially now, modern homes have larger and more windows around the house to create a sense of spaciousness, beauty, and chic style.

Why should you attach window tinting to your home?First, window tinting covers the home interiors from the damaging rays of the sun. Since it could not enter your home, it secures your fabrics, wood, artworks, carpets, and other fixtures from damage over time.

Second, window tinting provides a more refreshing ambiance to your home and minimizes the glare due to sun rays. It reduces the enormous amount of heat to enter your home, and it cuts the detrimental UV sun rays.
Third, despite the tint, you can still manage to have the benefit of seeing the beautiful vistas around you; plus, the fact that having window tint is a lovely home detail improvement.

Fourth, even with window tinting, you can still enjoy natural lighting all throughout your home. Since you are not closing down blades, the slight sun will again pass through your home but without the UV rays anymore.

Fifth, which many think as the best possible reason to make use of tinting, is because of the acquired privacy that it bestows on homeowners. Of course, several people do not want to keep their window shades pulled down all the time because it hampers them from seeing the panoramic view. With window tint, you can pick a tint with a superior reflective rate to give the utmost privacy you want for your homes.

What about commercial window tinting service?Adding a reflective window film is an excellent start for any commercial place. Along with home window tinting, commercial window tinting service is also quite popular these days. The reasons are given below-

Exact payback time depends on energy costs and other factors. For example, the payback time for heating and cooling systems depends on the local climate. However, the payback time for the following energy-saving actions is approximately 1-3 years.

Lighting Occupancy sensors are more reliable than expecting employees to turn off lights. Sensors in restrooms and closets save up to 60% of the energy used with a manual switch. Timers or photo-sensors help employees to use more daylight. Photo-sensors also adjust for natural light with dimming.

De-lamping saves more energy and money in the long term than replacing fixtures. Many older office buildings have too many lights due to outdated codes and the new trend of widespread computer use. Excess lighting glares on computer screens and wastes energy. Payback time for removing two to eight-foot fluorescent lamps, lamp holders, and ballasts is less than a year.

Installing CFL pendants and wall sconces for hallway and corridors. These areas don’t need as much lighting as a computer workspace to be safe and attractive.

Compact fluorescents are 75% more efficient than incandescent and last ten times longer. Occupancy sensors save up to 60% of the energy used with a manual switch.

Space Heating and Cooling HVAC systems tend to be oversized and inefficient. A Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner (PTAC) heats and cools smalls spaces efficiently. Payback time depends on local factors like climate, but a PTAC pays for itself in approximately three years. Consider other investments like reflective window film or variable speed drive systems for HVAC fans that control speed for energy savings.

Now, we don’t believe in fear-mongering, but we do believe in prudence and safety for our families and workplace. If you have beautiful scenery out of your windows but would prefer additional protection when those storms roll in, window tinting can provide a range of hurricane protective window films as well.

How to Pair a Gate with Fence

11/15/2019

Picture
A fence around your residence provides the ultimate layer of security and privacy that allows you and your family the right to enjoy the comforts of your home.   This post aims to help you pick which fence and gate combinations to pair as you design your backyard sanctuary.   After all, what good is a fence if you can't get in and out of it!

Some things that should always be considered before having a fence & gate installed:
  • Have an example of the fence or gate you want installed in your yard
  • Consider who you share the fence with and what the fence will look like from a neighbor's perspective (often a much different view from that of yours)
  • Weather conditions that the gate will go through, not all materials hold up the same

Manual Gates
This is the most common and least expensive choice when it comes to gate installation.  A manual gate provides ease of entry to your front or back yard, pool area or to the area of your commercial property.  It is easy to pair a manual gate with any fence material and many of our fence designs have corresponding gate combinations that pair well.  Manual gates are typically paired with locks and latches so that the gate is closed and secure in hectic weather conditions.

Automatic Gates
With an automatic gate you are adding an extra level of security to your property that you can't get with a manual in-and-out gate. For this reason, the added cost of automatic gate installation is often what our customers cannot live without! We see automatic gates frequently installed over driveways and other entrances to residences and commercial properties.  It is also hard to fathom having a manual gate in your driveway in which you'd have to get out of your car to unlock each time, not what you want to come home to after a long day's work!  Automatic gates typically come with sensors that unlock your gate from up to a quarter mile away so you can arrive home or to the office like a king.

To help save you money and time, having the type of gate you want picked out with your new fence installation is an easy addition to the process.  Once type is known, we cut out the dimensions of the section and install the gate after the rest of the fence is in the ground.   Before we hit the shovel to the ground, let us know what kind of gate you imagine with your brand new fence and we will add it to your design!

How to Install a Vinyl Fence in Your Backyard

Vinyl fence installation Salt Lake City

In this short post, we go into the step-by-step process for vinyl fence installations.  As vinyl fencing comes with panels that lock into place, installation is quite simple.

Tools Needed
  • Post hole digger
  • String line

Materials Needed
  • Vinyl fence posts
  • Gravels
  • Can of spray paint
  • 2 x 4s

Step 1: Define the Property Line
It's important to know exactly where the property lines are drawn in accordance with legal purchase documents for your property.

Step 2: Draw Fence Line
After there is clarity on the property line, it's time to draw the fence line. You'll want to mark the locations of the corner holes and line posts with your can of spray paint.  Ensure the distance between posts (typically 8 feet) matches that of your vinyl panels.

Step 3: Temporarily Set the Vinyl Posts
With assistance from the post hole digger, clear out holes about 24 inches deep and 10 inches wide.  Fill in the first 2 to 3 inches of the holes with gravel for easier drainage.  While ensuring the posts are level, insert corner posts in each hole.  Brace each fence post with a 2 x 4 that are attached to the post tops and the ground.

Step 4: Set Height with String Line
Ensure the string is taut & level and then run through each corner post.  This will provide a check to make sure the posts are installed at an even height.  When sure the corner posts are even, place all remaining posts in holes while making sure each is plumb (& even with the nearest corner post).

Step 5: Assemble Vinyl Panels
Panels come in three parts: bottom rail, slats and top rail.  These needs to be assembled based on the fence manufacturer's manual.  Once you're able to snap in the the top and bottom rails you'll know the fence panels are assembled properly.

Step 6: Set the Fence Posts
After mixing fast-dry cement, pour into fence post holes so that they are completely filled.  We recommend leaving the 2x4 in place for 24 hours until the cement settles. Once done, apply PVC cement filling to the inside of the post caps and install on top of the posts.

Powder Coating Fences

8/15/2019

Picture
Our powder coating addition can maintain its finish up to 15-20 years on our metal fences, depending on pre-treatment and the type of powder. Its resistance to weather, corrosion and chemicals makes powder coating a more durable finish than paint or other liquid coatings.

How Powder-Coating is Treated

Preparing the formula is the most important process for  getting maximum life out of your powder coat. Because the powder particles are electrostatically charged onto the surface, it’s important for that surface to be clean for proper adherence. Most preparation includes stripping any existing coating and corrosion and cleaning the bare metal.
If the substrate is prepared poorly or not at all, your powder coat may chip easily resulting in a short life.

Durability of Each Type
There are various types of powder-coating available for a range of applications:

Epoxy - Extremely durable and excellent resistance to corrosion and chemicals. Best used indoors, as sun and weather can cause fading and deterioration within a matter of months. We recommend the use of epoxy primers as the first step in the two-coat process. When coupled with a UV stable top coat this combination will ensure your coating project lasts for years.
Polyester - One of the most commonly used powders, polyesters have a large selection of colors and glosses. Great for interior and exterior applications.  Highly durable chemistries offer good resistance to chemicals, corrosion and UV weathering.
Fluoropolymers - Superior weathering capabilities allow fluoropolymer powders to retain gloss and colors very well. They are also resistant to corrosion and are an excellent choice for outdoor applications. Warranties up to 20 years are available when applied to specific surfaces by a certified applicator.
Urethanes - Because the base polymer in both urethane and polyester powders are very similar, urethane powder has most of the same characteristics of polyester. It can resist chemicals slightly better and has excellent matting ability. Urethane powders are slightly harder, which can result in less flexibility. This improved performance generally means urethane powders are more expensive than polyester powders.

Etiquette of Fence Installation: Who Gets What?

7/15/2019

When you install a new fence, you often have more to think of than just yourself.  Most times the fence is shared with a neighbor or other neighboring business.  Let's go over the general rules of fence etiquette we encourage customers to keep in mind before installing a fence!

Ensure Property Lines are Clearly Laid Out
Many of us don't exactly know where our property ends & our neighbors begin. It's always a good idea to check your property's plat- a drawing that maps the land you own.  If you can't locate the plat, you can typically get one for free from the county records office.  If this route fails, you can fire a land surveyor to clarify the borders of your property.
Connect with Your Neighbors
Never a bad idea in general, but especially when the issue of property lines comes to the forefront.  You never quite know what your neighbor's plat says & it's a good idea to confirm this before starting a project.  After so, it's a great common courtesy to confide in your neighbors before starting a home project that they will be running along their property.   We've even seen situations where neighbors both are considering fence installations & decide to split the costs after discussing with each other!
Face Finished Fence Side Toward a Neighbor
Some types of fences have a finished (good) side and a one that is less smooth with posts showing.  In general, the finished side of the fence should face your neighbor- though our fence's typically have two equally smooth sides!   Not only will your property look a lot better with the finished side facing the outside world, but your neighbors or cars on the road will appreciate the beauty & thoughtfulness of leaving the best side for public eyes.  The double-sides fences we install are created using 'sandwich construction', making each side equally smooth & also providing more strength.
Work to Maintain Your Fence
You want your fence to look how it does after installation for years to come.  Maintaining a vinyl or metal fence requires just a tiny bit of maintenance throughout each year to maintain this high aesthetic level.  This benefits you, as well as your neighbors, who share the aesthetics of the fence and likely won't feel it's their right or obligation to provide any maintenance to your fence.    Luckily, wood fences require the most maintenance & that is why Salt Lake Fence Company specializes in vinyl & metal installations.

Following these guidelines in the fence installation process will help you to feel secure while keeping your neighbors happy.  Who doesn't want a peaceful neighborhood.

Why Your Next Fence Should be Vinyl

6/14/2019

Vinyl has numerous advantages over wood or chain link fences- to start it's more durable and affordable.  It also is easier to personalize because of its flexibility.   7 Reasons why Vinyl should be your next fence:
  1. Minimal Maintenance- a benefit of this material is the lack of upkeep required for vinyl material.  It doesn't need to be repainted nor are the use of chemicals needed to keep termites and pests away.
  2. Durability- our sourced fencing comes with titanium dioxide, which doesn't fade or crack over time.  This material is about 5 times stronger than that of wood and can weather even the most intense storms.
  3. Ease of Installation- once holes for posts are made, rails are inserted with the picket fencing right behind.  This process is as simple as fence construction can get.
  4. Easy to Clean- vinyl can be cleaned with household soap and water.  If there is moss or mildew growing you can typically scrub off within minutes.
  5. Privacy- building 6-8 feet high with our panels is regular.  Depending on the privacy you need we can craft a structure high enough for your needs.
  6. No Toxic Material- there is no risk of infestation in the rest of your yard as no preservatives are needed for this type of construction.
  7. Sleek Look- vinyl comes in numerous styles.  The material can mimic other traditional fences like wood or even be curved to the shape of your desire.

Are Vinyl & PVC Fences the Same?

6/10/2019

We get a common question by customers asking 'Are vinyl & PVC fences the same?'  The easy answer is yes, but we dive into the differences & similarities of the two fence types below.

PVC
If you're a do-it-yourselfer, you have likely used polyvinyl chloride, or PVC. PVC is a type of vinyl material that is utilized in numerous ways.  If you've done work in plumbing, heating, or electrical chances are you have used PVC piping.  PVC is utilized because of its cheap material cost, relatively long average lifespan and surprisingly strong durability against pressure.

In vinyl fence construction, PVC is one of the materials used but not the only one. Depending on your size and order, vinyl compounds can be mixed with polyvinyl acetic acid derivation (found in glue) and polyacrylonitrile (standard acrylic fiber). This has driven numerous in the fencing business to utilize the expressions "vinyl" and "PVC" reciprocally.  Be that as it may, calling a vinyl fence a "PVC fence" isn't always accurate as vinyl fence compounds are fabricated with other materials that work in harmony to create your ideal perimeter.

Vinyl Fence Building
Since vinyl wall are altogether produced using a similar essential concoction, you may feel that they're all fundamentally a similar item. This couldn't possibly be more off-base. Vinyl fences vary widely so be sure before you begin your installation, ensure that the vinyl compound is not comprised of low-quality materials that are used to save money.  The team here at Salt Lake Fence Company helps deliver a high-quality vinyl compound that combines raw PVC material with additives like UV inhibitors and impact modifiers that help your fence to keep its color and shape years down the road.

Sadly, many commercial fencing companies and home improvement stores have given vinyl fences a terrible name through brittle and low-budget vinyl compounds. These organizations sell shabby, DIY vinyl fence posts and boards that don't stand the trial of time. They are made utilizing basic ingredients and tend to be brittle and weak in the test of inclement weather.

High Quality Vinyl Options for Your Home
At Salt Lake Fence Company, our team of fencing contractors only installs high-quality vinyl fence finishings that are designed to have a long lifespan while being offered at a reduced cost.  If you have any further questions or would simply like more information, give us a call at (801) 695-4133 or visit our Contact Page to fill out a submission form today!  For more detailed information on our vinyl fence installation options, visit our vinyl fencing services page.

How to Choose a Pet-Friendly Fence for Your Yard

6/9/2019

Dogs (among others) are intelligent creatures.  If they want to run over or through a fence, they can usually find a way.  Depending on the size of your neighborhood, your dog may be at risk to run outside and encounter risks like traffic and other rabid animals in mother nature.  To keep your beloved pet safe, you should install a Pet-Friendly fence for your back or front yard.  If you already have a fence around the perimeter of your fence, it's a great idea to dog-proof that fence so that your best friend can't escape.  Below we list some helpful tips on how to secure your fence-line:

Check the Fence's Height & Spacing
If you have an athletic dog, chances are it likes to jump.  Typically, we recommend building a fence at least six feet tall to protect against this.   If you have a smaller dog, four feet should be enough but this is not something you want to do twice!  Further, we recommend a privacy fence without spacing in between panels.  Open style fence options are not a good idea for dog owners who don't want to spend their weekends tracking down their pet.  Think about how big you dog, or other pet, is before you finalize a fencing structure.

Secure Your Swimming Pool
Keep a healthy perimeter around your swimming pool.  It's fantastic you are able to enjoy summer with a personal swimming pool; unfortunately your pet didn't take swimming lessons!  Dogs should not be left unattended in a yard with a pool and no fence guarding it.  Leave your worries behind with a fence that keeps your pets and summer pool in separate arenas.

Check Your Fence's Strength
There isn't a whole lot of purpose in building a fence around your yard that has loose planks or can be pushed over.  Regular inspection of your fence to ensure there aren't dead spots or holes is needed.  If your fence starts to show signs of weakening or damage, it's time to replace it with a new fence installation of more sturdy material.  We highly recommend vinyl fencing for a sturdy base structure.

Inspect the Gates & Latches
Make sure to look at your gate & latch to ensure it takes momentum to open.  If your dog can simply paw the gate open, it's not operating properly.  Your fence gate should have a tight, secure fit so that your dog can't escape.

Call Salt Lake Fence Company
The number one solution (in our eyes) is to give your fencing contractors at Salt Lake Fence Company a call today.  We will come out and give you an honest opinion around the safety and security of your fence based on the size of your dog.  If you are located in Salt Lake City, UT and are looking for a reliable fence company, we are here for you.
